Children in reception will be learning to:
Read individual letters by saying the sounds for them. (Literacy)
Pipe cleaners
Bubble mixture
Plate/tray
If you don't have any bubble mix you could make your own by mixing your own.
2 cups washing up liquid
1 cup water
1 tsp glycerine or cooking oil - this makes the bubble less likely to burst.
Pretend to be fish and blow some bubbles. Make the b sound - b,b,b,b.
Use the pipe cleaners to make a bubble wand. Twist one pipe cleaner into a circle then twist another one so that it attached to make a handle. Bend the handle so that the bubble wand looks like a letter b.
Dip the bubble wand into the mixture then blow to create bubbles.
Extension - You could try to create other letters using the pipe cleaners. Ask them what they think would happen if you used a different shape bubble wand e.g. what shape would the bubbles be if you made a heart shaped wand? Experiment and find out!
If you have a go at this activity and share any photos on social media I would love to see them. Please tag @miniwritersclub and let me know how you get on.
