What you need:
Chocolate coins
A sharpie pen
Use a Sharpie to write a sound on each chocolate coin. Make sure to write the two letters that make a digraph on the same coin to reinforce the idea that they go together.
Ask your child to spell words using the chocolate coins. Say a word from their spelling list and ask them to segment it into individual sounds e.g. pack, p-a-ck.
Only give your child the coins with the letters they need for that word.
Let them look at the word before they try to make it.
Write single letters on each coin so that your child has to build the digraphs/trigraphs themselves.
Place all of the letters needed to spell all of the words on the spelling list so your child has to select the letters they need.
