Children in nursery will be learning to:
Develop their phonological awareness, so that they can recognise words with the same initial sound, such as money and mother (Literacy)
Train and train track
A selection of objects beginning with s, a and t e.g. sandwich, spider, axe, stop sign, tree (Or click here to download some photos of objects)
Flashcards/paper with s, a and t written on.
Use the train track to create a railway that goes from you to your child or in a circle so the train passes both of you. Place a selection of objects in the middle of the track. Show your child the flashcards and recap what sounds the letters make.
Select a flashcard and ask your child to choose an object that starts with that sound. They should put it in the train and send it to you.
Play again and swap roles. Ask your child to pick a sound for you. Can they find the matching flashcard and show it to you? Then you can choose an object that starts with the sound and send it to them. Ask them to check if you were correct.
