Children in reception will be learning to:
Form lower-case and capital letters correctly. (Literacy)
Paper Plate
Pen
Grapes
I cut some grapes in half lengthways then arranged them on a paper plate so they looked like the letter g. I cut the grapes in half lengthways to reduce the choking hazard and also so they will lie flat on the plate.
I used a pen to draw arrows on the plate to show where the letter g starts and the direction to follow when writing it.
Benji ate the grapes for a snack. He started with the grape at the top, then followed the arrows as he picked them up to eat.
I like to use visual ways to represent the letters. Next time we say the g sound we can remember the green grapes we used to make a g! Then we can pretend to pick them in the air whilst following the letter formation.
If you have a go at this activity and share any photos on social media I would love to see them. Please tag @miniwritersclub and let me know how you get on.
