h - hot chocolate tray

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Children in reception will be learning to:

  • Form lower-case and capital letters correctly. (Literacy)

What you need:

  • Hot chocolate

  • Mini marshmallows

  • Tray

  • Flashcard with a h written on

I have just had knee surgery so we haven't had chance to do this activity yet so I have included some images from when we used chocolate cereal and pom-poms to create pretend hot chocolate! Ideally I would have a tray filled with hot chocolate powder.

Say it and write it

Put some hot chocolate powder in a tray and add some mini marshmallows. Use the mini marshmallows to draw and make marks in the powder. Show your child the h flashcard. Start at the top and draw a line down then hop over.

The hot chocolate tray with the cereal was an activity I did with Sophie when she was younger. She had lots of fun pretending to make hot chocolates.

We have also set up a real hot chocolate stand. I made some hot chocolate and added some milk to make sure it wasn't too h-h-hot. I added cups, milk, cream and marshmallows to the hot chocolate stand. Benji was in charge of taking orders and making the drinks. He loved it!

If you have a go at this activity and share any photos on social media I would love to see them. Please tag @miniwritersclub and let me know how you get on.
