Spider Webs

What you need:

  • Black card or paper

  • White pen or chalk

Use white pens or chalk to draw on black paper. Draw a spider web by making lines and drawing circles which are some of the first pre-writing shapes. Then see if your child can draw their own spider webs.

Skills:

Mark-making is a fun way to prepare for forming letters later on. If your child wants to draw something else, that is fine! It doesn't matter what they draw, it is about providing them with the opportunity to make marks using different materials.

Top Tip:

Break the chalk into smaller pieces to encourage children to grip using their thumb, index finger and middle finger rather than using a whole-hand grasp.

If you have a go at any of these activities and share any photos on social media I would love to see them. Please tag @miniwritersclub and let me know how you get on.
