Show your child the orange Phase 2 tricky word cards. Can they read the words and find the one that says no?
Do they know the word that means the opposite? It is yes. Ask them what yes starts with. Show them the y flashcard. Say "y for yes and n for no" making sure to use the letter sounds rather than the letter names.
Play a yes or no game to help your child to recognise the letter y. Play the y and n flashcards on the table. Print out the questions and fold them in half.
Ask your child to guess the answer to each question before reading it. If they think it is going to be yes they should put it by the y flashcard and if they think it's going to be no they should place it by the n flashcard. Then get them to open and read the question to see if they guessed correctly.
