Zig-Zag Shape Monsters

Create your own shape monsters with zig-zag legs in this activity. Folding the monster’s legs is a great way to develop fine motor skills. Picking up the paper, steadying it to make a bend and then reinforcing the bend into a fold is a great way to develop the dexterity needed to control a pencil.

Begin by drawing your monster’s body. Your child could either cut out one of the templates or draw their own.

Download the shape template below:

Decorate the monster. Can they use a zig-zag pattern to add some fur? You could use felt tips, crayons, stickers etc.

Cut the shape out and add details such as eyes.

Next, cut some arms and legs. To create zig-zag legs, cut a long strip of paper and fold it in a concertina style. Fold a small section, turn it over and fold it back on itself. Repeat until you get to the end of the strip. Glue the arms and legs to your zig-zag shape monster.

You could use your zig-zag monster to trace the letters on the letter formation phrase cards.
