Train Track Blending

You will need:

Choose a CVC word (consonant, vowel, consonant) from the list below and select the sound flashcards to make it. Position the cards underneath the train track to make the word.

Words you could make: ⁣

sat, sit, sip, tap, tip, tin, pat, pan, pit, pin, nap, nit, nip

Press the sound buttons and say the sounds.

Then move the train across the track and say each sound as you pass it. Start again from the beginning, moving the train a little quicker and stretching the sounds so the sounds begin to join together e.g. ssssssssat. Then say the word e.g. s-a-t, sssssssssssat, sat.

Repeat with other CVC words.

Support: If your child finds it tricky, play without using letters. Place a picture card below the track from the Phase 2 Words and Captions pack with just the sound buttons showing. As they move the train along the track, you should say the sounds. Model how to blend them at the end to make a word. Then you could turn the card over and look at the letters as you say the sounds.

You could also begin with VC words (vowel - consonants) e.g. at, an, it, in
