Spelling Club
The Spelling Club contains fun activity ideas to help learn spellings. The themed weeks are a great way to practice weekly spellings that are sent home from school or choose from one of the quick activity ideas.
Top Tips:
-
Sort the spellings into decodable words and tricky words. Decodable words can be sounded out so your child doesn't need to learn to spell these off by heart. Instead, they need to be able to identify the digraphs/trigraphs and sound the words out to help spell them. Tricky words cannot be sounded out because they break the rules/contains sounds your child hasn't learnt yet. These are the words to focus on.
-
Day 1 - Read the words and sort them into ones they know and ones they need to learn. Can they spot any digraphs/trigraphs in the words?
-
Day 2 - Look and Copy. This will help them to identify any spelling patterns.
-
Day 3 - Cover and Write. Once they have written the word help them to check if they are correct. If not, identify their mistake and have a look at the correct spelling.
-
Day 4 - Spell it. Read the word and see whether your child can write it down.
