Choose a word card and model how to read it by sounding out and blending.If the word doesn’t make sense, explain that the blue grapheme can be pronounced in different ways. Sound it out again, trying the alternative pronunciations in the blue stripe underneath the word. Does it make sense now?

These printable flashcards include two copies of each word. The second copy has sound lines and sound buttons to help your child sound out the word. A sound line shows where two sounds work together to make one sound e.g. ie. This is called a digraph.

The focus digraph is written in blue to help your child spot it in the word.

Say the sounds as you press each sound button or line. Then blend the sounds to make the words e.g. f-ie-l-d, field.
