What you need:
Flashcards/pieces of paper with letters written on
Make a sound shelf from Duplo. Add a block for each of the sounds. Arrange the cards to make the word. Using the digraph cards helps children to see which letters go together to make one sound and which letters make their own sounds.
Let your child look at it for a few seconds then take the cards off the shelf and mix them up. Say the word and ask your child to repeat it. Then they should sound it out and put the sounds on the shelf in the correct order.
As they become more confident, you could add more cards so they really have to think about which sounds to use.
If you have a go at this activity and share any photos on social media I would love to see them. Please tag @miniwritersclub and let me know how you get on.
