Air Writing
Air writing is where we write letters in the air using big arm movements, saying the phrase as we form the letter. Making large letters with our bodies helps to develop movement memory, which allows children to form letters correctly. Keeping the elbow straight and using big arm movements develops the gross motor skills needed for handwriting such as shoulder and arm strength.

Invisible Letters
Writing invisible letters is a great way to fit in some letter formation practice if you are really busy! Here are a few different ideas to try.

Letter Hunt
Before you start, hide the letters l, t, i, u, y, j around the room. Say one of the Incy Wincy Spider phrases and ask your child to try to find the matching letter e.g. if you say “down the little spout across the web” they should look for the letter t. Say another one of the phrases and see if your child can find the matching letter. This will help them to learn the letter formation phrases.
